12/14/24 Dream: I had a dream that I was looking at a cursed RPG maker game created by forced prison labor, in which their souls became trapped in each character via some kind of magical curse. I remember a bunch of symbolic characters, such as a serial killer turned into a pirate with red eyes a psychotic smile and a very bloody sword; a thief’s soul turned into a rogue/ninja hybrid with no body but red eyes and shadow; a Meiji era prisoner turned into a shadowy samurai class member; a rapist turned into a disturbing smiling goblin; an abusive woman turned into a succubus with sexy but impractical armor; and most disturbing of all, an AGP predatrix convicted of entering the women’s bathroom for nefarious purposes being turned into a highly acidic slime girl with no ability to wear equipment. I played the game for a while, noting how there were about only 8 characters with unique traits. That was, until I died, and then began datamining the game in frustration. I decompiled it and then looked through the RPG maker menus, only to then see thousands of characters. For their in-game name, each prisoner was simply given a nickname like “The Cock”, “The Demon”, “The Harpy”, “Mr. Knife”, “Violator”, etc., but for their name in the code, they were referred to by their full names, alongside comments in the scripts begging for help and freedom from the game. I was then stuck in a moral quandary, wondering if I should free the prisoners or not, as I sat there at my computer staring at the code. I stared and stared for a few minutes, eventually deciding to give it some more time as I opened another tab to watch a gaming video. A gaming video then opened, showing Donkey Kong within a Dustborn combat sequence while that one concert theme from the game played on loop in the background, as he was punching the crap out of the JUSTICE robots, and somehow managing to trigger magical effects with his mighty monkey roars. I remember thinking “Huh, this is a weird mod…” and gong to click off, but I was transfixed at its comedic nature and decided to stay and watch the video for a bit longer. After about two more combat montages, I saw a glitchy cutscene between Donkey Kong and Theo in which they smoked a cigarette together and talked amongst themselves in Spanish, Donkey Kong’s model clipping through the earth and props the whole time, while Theo still looked relatively normal. This kept going on for a while until the video ended, wherein I then suddenly awoke. FIN.
Dreams can often reflect our subconscious thoughts, fears, and creative expressions, and this dream appears to be rich in symbolism and reflective themes. Here's an interpretation of the key elements:
Cursed RPG Maker Game: This symbolizes a situation or project in your life that feels burdensome or constrained—perhaps a creative endeavor that feels unfulfilling or where you see potential but encounter ethical dilemmas, much like your internal struggle with the characters’ fates.
Trapped Souls: The notion of souls being trapped in characters suggests feelings of imprisonment, possibly reflecting your concerns about lost potential or unrealized aspects of yourself or others around you. It could symbolize ways in which you've felt confined by societal roles, personal expectations, or relationships.
Diverse Character Representations: Each character represents different aspects of society or personality traits that might disturb you. They could embody various fears or societal issues, highlighting a struggle between morality and the darker sides of human nature. The extreme representations hint at the idea of confronting uncomfortable truths and the duality of humanity—how people can embody both good and evil.
Moral Quandary: Your dilemma about freeing the prisoners reflects your own ethical contemplations and hesitation in making decisions that could impact others. It might signify a fear of responsibility or consequences that come with difficult choices.
Gaming and Escapism: The shift to watching a gaming video and the comedic nature of it could represent a desire for escape from the heavy themes of the previous parts of the dream. It highlights a longing for light-heartedness and the urge to distance yourself from serious thoughts or issues present in your waking life.
Glitchy Cutscene with Donkey Kong: This represents chaos and the absurdities of life. It could symbolize your recognition that life doesn’t always go as planned, or that humorous distractions can provide relief from deeper concerns.
Overall, this dream may be urging you to confront some underlying fears or moral dilemmas in your life, balancing heavy thoughts with the need for levity and humor. It also points to the imitation of both creativity and responsibility, reflecting a complex inner dialogue about freedom and the darker aspects of human experiences. Consider what areas in your life this might relate to and how you can find a balance between these conflicting themes.
